Description:
Heartwood is a contemporary nature artwork exploring the relationship between the living landscape, memory and the passage of time.
At the centre of the work sits a natural section of wood, its organic form and concentric growth rings revealing the history held within the tree. Surrounding it are delicate preserved flowers and botanical specimens, suspended within translucent resin to create a layered landscape of natural forms.
The contrast between the solidity of the wood and the fragility of the flowers reflects different expressions of nature — growth, resilience, change and renewal.
The growth rings become a visual record of time, while the preserved botanical elements suggest fleeting moments captured and held within the work.
The circular composition creates a sense of continuity, with the botanical forms flowing around the central wood like a small, self-contained ecosystem.
Through the combination of natural wood, preserved plant material and resin, Heartwood transforms elements of the natural world into a contemporary sculptural composition, preserving their physical presence while inviting reflection on time, transformation and our connection with nature.
