Persepolis – What Remains
My works draw on the form of the column – not as an architectural element, but as something that endures.
As in Persepolis, they stand as fragments of a context that is no longer whole.
The vases are composed of stacked chapels. Their structures shift, fall out of alignment, begin to fray. No form repeats itself.
I refrain from showing a visible rupture. It is not the moment of destruction that interests me, but the state that follows:
a continued standing, a continued bearing.
The surfaces – unglazed white, glossy black, deep blue – describe states that are sensed rather than named.
Openness, density, transcendence.
