ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Angelina, a 17 year old Canadian Chinese young artist currently studying at Dulwich College
Beijing. She is developing her artistic voice while pursuing her A-level studies. Her preferred
mediums are water colour, oil painting, and mixed media. Her artistic interests involves
themes of memory and identity, as well as childhood and self reflection, all influenced by
surrealist environments from her life and psychological themes from adolescence. She is
particularly interested in how memories, emotions, and experiences shape one’s identity over
time, as she views growth as an ever ongoing process rather than a destination.
She has participated in numerous charity related creative projects and received art
achievements from Fiji Youth Charity & Art Foundation, where she is awarded Charity
Ambassador and Contribution Award, and much more. For example, her art work has also
been exhibited during China-Japan Peace and Friendship Treaty 40th anniversary and the
ICAE International Children’s Exhibition in 2019. This year, she is co-designing a fashion
collection with Seed & Soul for Beijing Fashion Week in September, whilst developing her
own fashion brand.
She hopes to continue expanding her artistic practice through fine art, fashion, and other
artistic mediums. She views art as a way to preserve emotions, using visual storytelling to
connect themes between memory, identity, and self reflection. She strives to explore and
experiment, creating imaginative works that challenge perspectives, evoke emotion, and
encourages viewers to discover their own meaning in each piece.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I believe art is powerful visual representation of what sometimes words cannot express. I like
to use themes reconnecting to my own adolescence, such as memories, experiences and
objects, all culminating to reflect concepts of identity, self reflection, and a dreamlike or
surreal state.
Working across oil painting and mixed media, I believe art has the ability to transform the
ordinary into something symbolic and meaningful. Prominent topics close to my heart are
sustainability and cultural heritage. In the face of globalisation and modernisation, how can
the act of making and creating preserve history and life and reinvent both physical and
emotional experiences. And art is a medium for my voice to be heard on a global scale,
without the restriction of language and location.
Sustainability forms an important foundation within my practices, not only through the
materials I choose but also the way I use it. And through such deliberate choices I make in the
present, I not only reconnect with my past self via childhood themes, but also build a bridge
to future audiences via my intention artistic expressions.
