Character Set is a code-based video piece built with p5.js. Originally created in early 2025 and recently updated, every visual element on screen is generated entirely by pure code. The system creates a colorful grid made of asterisks, barcode-like blocks, and lines that connect to dots like a web.
The code is programmed to mirror and multiply these layouts, shifting the piece between dense, bright blocks of color and open spaces where the symbols drift. Throughout the video, the code generates quick 0.4-second flashes of text that read "erasing subject." When this text appears, it acts as a command that triggers the system to clear out the surrounding visuals. The work is set to an original music track created to accompany the moving graphics.
