Between Points: The Cat Between Us is a web-based interactive installation developed from the Between Points series, in which the dot is understood as a unit of life.
The viewer begins by choosing a single point from a field of dots. From that chosen point, a cat is born, and the viewer gives it a name. By opening the page and returning to meet the cat day after day, the viewer repeats a small act of encounter over time.
This work is not a game about raising a cat. Its focus is not achievement, progress, or reward, but the repeated act of visiting the same being. The cat inside the screen does not speak human language, nor is it given an excessive narrative. Yet through the viewer’s repeated presence — looking, touching, calling, caring, and returning — an invisible relationship gradually emerges between the cat on the screen and the person outside it.
The Between Points series does not seek meaning only in the points themselves, but in the empty space between them, where relationships can be perceived. In this work, that space between points appears as the invisible distance between the viewer and the cat. There is no physical contact, yet through time, repetition, choice, memory, and small gestures, an unseen affection begins to take form.
Through the relationship between a digital being and a human viewer, this work asks where attachment begins, how affection is formed, and how an invisible space between two beings can become a place for relationship.
