The starting point for the Scolyte project was the ornamental marks left in the wood by a certain species of bark beetle in a forest close to the artist's home village. This beetle is responsible for the decline of a large number of spruce forests in Europe, a phenomenon caused by climate change.
The artist wondered how she might approach this insect and the impact it has on our ecosystems from an artistic perspective. Through the superimposition, appearance and disappearance of various images and sounds, she aims to explore both the fragmentation of space and the blurring of the viewer’s perception. This unsettling installation questions the decentralisation, and above all the de-hierarchisation, of the gaze when faced with non-human beings.
