Seashells, loudspeakers, audio file
The sound installation “We be of one blood, thou and I” invites the viewer to experience the soundscape of the sea—recalling childhood memories of listening into a shell and hearing the rush of the waves. One of the shells plays back the actual sound of surf, while the other emits an audio recording of a pulsed-wave Doppler signal measuring blood flow velocity in the artist’s venous system. The resemblance between the two sounds illustrates the human connection to nature through the shared element of water, as well as the fluidity of the boundaries between the two.
