I have been walking, looking for You, knocking everywhere.
Finely one door has opened
I looked
and realized that I had been knocking from inside.
(translated from Polish by Agata Hołobut)
I was delighted with the poetry of Jalal -al.-Din Muhammad Rumi, a Persian mystic from 13-th century and founder of the Mevlevi order of the „whirling dervishes”.
The kinetic has two knobs. The upper one activates a group of 7 closed, rotating doors representing different styles, different buildings and powers (castles, churches, homes).
The lower knob activates the only door that is ajar, setting it in an unexpected, rapid rotation, suggesting shock but also revelation and the future ecstatic whirl of the dervishes.
