PROJECT ION — St. Matthias Church, Neuwied, 2021
Created for the Diocese of Trier within the framework of PROJECT ION 2021, this suspended installation was conceived as a poetic and hope-giving intervention within sacred space during a period marked by uncertainty and collective emotional fatigue.
The expansive pink sculptural form appears to float weightlessly beneath the church dome — somewhere between cloud, spiritual body, and atmospheric presence. Constructed from permeable wire structures, the work transforms light into a living material and activates the vertical space of the architecture through transparency, shadow, and movement.
Rather than functioning as a religious symbol in a traditional sense, the installation was intended as an emotional gesture of openness, vulnerability, and renewal. The work invited visitors to experience the church not as a closed historical structure, but as a breathing space for reflection, imagination, and hope.
The intervention explored how contemporary sculpture can temporarily soften architecture and create moments of emotional elevation within public and spiritual environments.
