A contrast of matt black glass and 24 carat gold leaf records a moment in time – the blasting energy from a rifle shot. The gold leaf bursts open as it records the phenomenon of one material passing through another . The piece is inspired by my childhood spent amongst rural landscapes and agriculture, with days spent shooting targets, cans and other debris. I used my grandfather’s rifle and bullets made by my father to make this piece. This piece, casting in black glass, of the hole created by shooting a wax block with a rifle, once cast in glass the bullet hole is gilded with 24 carat gold.
