Matter has folded onto itself and kept the fold. Felt stiffened with gesso and modelling paste hangs as a single collapsed mass — not stretched into a surface but left in the thickness where a scar actually forms, beneath the skin rather than upon it. Modelled gesso faces rise from within the creases, half-reclaimed by the material, held at the depth where the matter decides whether to keep them or let them go. The work does not depict closure: it is a thing closed upon itself, offering the fold as the only honest account of a wound — what remains once the surface has stopped explaining itself.
