As an international artist from China, I navigate cultural and political tensions between two worlds. This experience inspired my dunnage bag installation, where these industrial buffers symbolize my role between China and the U.S. Varying in size from 11ft to 3ft, the bags reflect the scale of cultural clashes—some overwhelming, others subtle.
The papery texture contrasts with their industrial form, mirroring the paradox of global tensions. By inflating them into barriers, I recreate the suffocating yet fragile nature of cultural divides, inviting viewers to explore the complexities of globalization and the possibility of connection.
