Lite Zhang (b. 1998, China) is an interdisciplinary sculptor based in Los Angeles and Baltimore. His practice explores the spatial, sensory, and social dimensions of sculpture through immersive installations that activate auditory, tactile, and physical engagement. Integrating found objects, industrial materials, and discarded debris, Zhang reconfigures the detritus of contemporary life to interrogate systems of consumption, cultural memory, and environmental decay.
Zhang holds an MFA from the Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), where he also earned a Certificate in the College Teaching of Art. He completed his BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture at MICA in 2021. In summer 2025, he will attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, one of the most prestigious residencies for emerging artists in North America.
His work has been exhibited in galleries and alternative spaces including SPCE Contemporary, Current Space, AREA 405, and VisArts Center, with recent exhibitions such as Yeah Baby (Los Angeles), Gesundheit (Glen Arm, MD), and his solo show Same Root 同根生 at Pinkard Gallery (Baltimore).
Zhang has held positions across curatorial, instructional, and fabrication contexts, including roles at Alexandra Grant Studio in Los Angeles, the Shaanxi Province Art Museum in Xi’an, and various departments at MICA. His practice has been supported by numerous fellowships and awards, including the Amalie Rothschild '34 Rinehart Award, the Mildred Caplan Perl Scholarship, and the Roberts Family International Scholarship.
