Hair Painting
In 1988, my mother divorced my father. She set herself a task: to take five-year-old me on a flight to Beijing and climb the Great Wall. That year, a sandstorm raged—blurring the landscape and clouding our vision.
In 2011, I divorced—carrying the sorrow of two generations of women. For the first time, I painted an 11-metre scroll with my hair, marking the beginning of my journey as a performance artist.
In the spring of 2025, 37 years later, we stood together again atop the Great Wall. That day, the mountain was covered in blooming apricot blossoms. The wind was gentle, the light soft—like our peaceful minds and hearts, filled with gratitude.
This hair painting is a tribute to two generations of women, and our shared act of self-salvation—through body, action, movement, and unwavering determination.
