Share is a performance that explores the act of sharing. What is public? What is private yet exposed? What becomes common? The notion of share also evokes economic quotas and political consensus, which are forces that permeate personal lives, often dividing rather than uniting.
Two performers inhabit the space together with the audience. They begin by moving with masks that conceal their identities. Drawn forms social media and everyday routines, their gestures are assembled into a sequence of movements that convey the emotions arising from being compelled to share a collective destiny.
Excerpts from classical texts, including from Shakespeare’s Coriolanus and Plutarch’s Discourse on the Body, are spoken to the audience as gestures of guidance and protection. An invitation to share, indeed.
The setting evokes an urban world, overflowing with constant exchange that paradoxically isolates. Yet the emotions carried by words spoken in multiple languages transcend boundaries, drawing people closer.
The performance culminates in a shared effort to lower a ball held between the performers’ foreheads. Success is possible only when they achieve genuine connection.
