What happens when a work on paper breaks from the wall and begins to inhabit space– positioning itself as a Gegenentwurf, a quiet counter-presence to the viewer in the room? In my largest piece to date, Wache (German for Keeper), I constructed a freestanding frame of raw concrete and plexiglass—an intervention that blurs the line between traditional printmaking and spatial installation.
A keeper preserves, protects, and sometimes conceals. She also cuts away what no longer serves. Woven into ivy, she waits—quietly claiming space at the edges, where this world begins to loosen its grip.
