In her new body of work, Newmen uses real plant surfaces, transferring their textures onto copper printing plates through various etching techniques. In doing so, she explores connections between natural forms, structural patterns, and her portrayed characters. The classical motif of holding flowers in portraiture is subtly subverted – replaced by a bundle of sage, a medicinal plant long associated with virtue, health, and protection. This gesture becomes a symbol of transformation: a homage to aging and the quiet wisdom it imparts.
