The “Mirror”
series draws inspiration from my travels where I like to document a large
variety of places: landscape, architecture, museums. It is my way to get a
grasp of the place and it is usually the starting place of a new project. The works mirror the experiences I had then, focused on a fragment which
introduces the viewer in the painting, hence the
preference for detailed images. When
placed together, the round compositions resemble the Renaissance tondo,
filtered through a personal perspective. Blue and silver colours are used to
mirror glimpses of reality and sculptural shapes.
I was interested to
explore more image types in developing the Mirror paintings, incorporating
text, close-ups and and elements from media culture. “Video paused” is inspired
by the YouTube message displayed on the screen, and I liked how it resonates with us: Are
you so hooked with technology or can you take a break from it? Are you still keeping an eye on nature or the
elements around you? It’s the way media exposure affects us and also shapes our
path. The round compositions also reflect fleeting
moments, like a fragment of the time I try to keep.
