The 4th of may is the dutch remembrance day of the holocaust of the second world war. Every year a large crowd of people gather on Dam square in Amsterdam, and hold 2 minutes of silence in respect of the people who died 80 years ago. But every year there are also some individuals who not only think about the second world war genocide, but also about the people who suffer this crime in the present. People who are experiencing the same horror that our grandparents went through, but are ignored by our politicians. That’s why some decide to stand up and hold a Palestinian flag instead of a dutch. Even though they’re standing in, and for peace, the police violently takes them away from the scene. This country doesn’t seem to have learned anything from their mistakes. I wonder what it’s worth to hold 2 minutes of silence each year, if we’re still being silent the rest of the year.
