This painting started as a dream of me clinging to the front of an old steam train on a wooden rollercoaster track. I don’t know how and why I got up there, but I had to hold on tight until the ride was over in order to survive. For me this train represents the man-build system we are in a way forced to live by in the western society. Everybody takes the same route, on the same tracks in the same train car, passing the same stations. Sometimes we get treated with a short dopamine booster to keep us satisfied, but a deep fall closely follows. There is no real joy in this fabricated way of living. It just seems so logical that you take this route, you don’t really have to do anything other than just sit down and fasten your seatbelt. It’s much harder to choose not to get on board. I understand it completely, that’s why I’m clinging on to the train. It’s still too scary to let go, but I also didn’t buy a ticket.
