Khwaja Shams al-Din Mohammad, Hafez Shirazi, is one of the most popular poets in Iran, whose
works have become famous not only in Iran but also all over the world over the centuries. The
subject matter of Hafez's poems is very diverse, and his poems are used in traditional Iranian
music, visual arts, and calligraphy.
For us Iranians, Sheikh Hafez Shirazi is the knower of hidden secrets and the unseen world, whom
we turn to when we face problems or crossroads in life or at various national ceremonies, pray to
him, and use his poems. Shams al-Din Mohammad, nicknamed Khwaja Hafez Shirazi and known as
Lisan al-Ghayb, is one of the most famous poets in the history of Iran, who was born around 726
AH in the city of Shiraz. Hafez's main fame and the secret of his eternal dynamism is due to his
ghazal and beautiful ghazal compositions.
