This started as a really simple idea - what happens when a form closes back on itself? When two ends find each other and hold. The loop created this interior space, this pocket of warmth inside - and I realised that's what the painting is actually about. What we hold inside when we close ourselves around something.
The white on the left is kept deliberately. It's where the painting remembers being unfinished - and I like that honesty. The form on the right is obsessively worked, every line rendered, and then the left side just breathes. I think that tension is more true to how things actually are.
