“Amen.Exe” explores the fragile relationship between spiritual consciousness and digital influence in the 21st century. At the center of the work is a female figure with closed eyes, whose face is covered by a white cloth. This cloth becomes an ambivalent symbol: both an act of voluntary withdrawal and imposed blindness – a boundary between inner insight and external manipulation.
The figure’s raised hand appears as a silent act of resistance, a refusal toward a world of constant connectivity, information overload, and algorithmic control. Social media symbols are superimposed onto the face, referencing a present in which identity is increasingly shaped and mediated through digital platforms.
The golden background draws on the visual language of sacred icons, granting the image a timeless, almost transcendent presence. Between spirituality and technology, between silence and digital noise, a field of tension emerges in which the question of the authentic self becomes central.
With “Amen.Exe,” Markus Steiner combines religious iconography with the challenges of the digital present. The work reflects the search for truth, orientation, and inner freedom in a world where algorithms, networks, and artificial intelligence increasingly structure perception, thought, and behavior.
The white cloth thus functions as a central motif: it not only obscures outward vision but also redirects it inward.
