Markus Steiner (born September 1, 1966, in Hindenburg, Upper Silesia, Poland) is a German painter and collage artist based in Iserlohn, Germany. Since 2010, he has devoted himself to contemporary painting, developing a distinctive visual language that combines classical artistic traditions with contemporary social and technological themes.
After his first studies in acrylic painting, Steiner furthered his artistic education through workshops with Gabriele Keiser and by studying Painting and Graphic Arts at the Art Academy Wetter/Ruhr. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Federal Association of Visual Artists Westphalia (BBK Westfalen e.V.).
His works exist at the intersection of painting, collage, and mixed media. They are characterized by the use of gold leaf, ornamental structures, and symbolic elements inspired by Byzantine iconography, Art Nouveau, and Art Deco. At the same time, his artworks explore themes such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, social media, spirituality, and the evolving relationship between humanity and technology. Female figures frequently occupy the center of his compositions, embodying beauty, vulnerability, transformation, and inner strength.
Steiner’s works have been exhibited internationally, including multiple participations in ART CAPITAL at the Grand Palais in Paris, as well as exhibitions in New York, Montreal, Monaco, Cannes, Belgium, Hungary, Tunisia, and Germany. In 2024, he was awarded the prestigious PRIX DU SALON 2024 at ART CAPITAL in Paris. Earlier, in 2017, he received the French distinction Arts – Sciences – Lettres.
Through his art, Markus Steiner seeks to build bridges between the past and the future. His works invite viewers to reflect on identity, spirituality, and the impact of modern technologies on human existence. By combining traditional materials with contemporary concepts, he creates visual worlds that are poetic, symbolic, and socially relevant.
