A few years ago, the last week of September was reserved for the “Architecture Week” at my University.
My new project wasn’t created in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture, but that manifestation had inspired me to remember that great man of architecture, who regularly asked me whenever we met about the faculty and who always publicly defended the honor of our profession.
“Architecture is not what you think and what you are convinced it is today.”
The portrait of architect Dragoljub Bakić was made from more than 28 tons of construction waste at Reva Pond, in the memorial park that bears his name.
It’s still not known who built the illegal landfill with an area of over 17ha and a height of 8m, but it is very well known how Dragoljub bravely fought against that scourge.
Symbolically, his figure is facing a residential complex located across the Danube, built according to the project he had developed together with his wife, one of the few human-sized settlements that we have today.
