Cristina Ticovschi is a Romanian multidisciplinary visual artist based in Toulon, France. For more than twenty years, she has developed an artistic practice centered on material experimentation and the exploration of light as a transformative element within her work.
She studied painting and ceramics in Nice, France, and Melbourne, Australia, enriching her artistic language through diverse cultural and technical approaches. These experiences have shaped a practice in which materiality, texture, and visual perception play a central role.
Her work has been exhibited in two galleries in Cannes, at a gallery in Funchal, Madeira (Portugal) and at the Art Fair in Marseille. She has also presented her work in the solo exhibition Encontros Efémeros in Machico and participated in the INTRA Olhar para Nos collective exhibition in Ponta do Sol Madeira. She is currently exhibiting in the collective exhibition Acervo do Artista in Funchal and in the Intra exhibition in Porto Santo, Madeira.
Artistic Statement
Cristina Ticovschi's artistic research is rooted in the continuous exploration of materials and their interaction with light.
Her sculptural practice begins with clay and extends into bronze, exploring the transformation of material from the immediacy of modeling to the permanence of cast metal. Alongside sculpture, she creates mixed-media collages incorporating mirrors and plastic objects, introducing reflections and visual interactions that actively engage the viewer.
Digital art also forms an important part of her practice. Drawing on photographs captured during her travels, she creates digital compositions in which abstraction and visual memory converge.
Her current research focuses on developing painting techniques that combine pigments and resin to produce richly textured surfaces reminiscent of ceramics. The pigments respond to changing light conditions, altering their intensity and tonal qualities according to the surrounding illumination. This evolving relationship with light gives the works a dynamic and ever-changing presence.
She also creates layered geometric compositions using metallic and transparent acrylics. Their translucent and reflective qualities generate visual depth that shifts with the viewer's perspective and the ambient light.
Across all aspects of her practice, Cristina Ticovschi seeks to establish a dialogue between material, light, and perception, inviting viewers into an aesthetic experience that is continuously transformed by its environment.
