Federica Tentor (b. Italy) is a Miami-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice bridges the tension between choreography, psychological inquiry, and material-based figuration. Drawing from an extensive background in dance, psychotherapy, and art history, Tentor treats the canvas as a somatic site where the human form navigates the pressures of discipline, memory, and institutional control. Her work is profoundly informed by her personal experience with chronic health challenges and daily pain; she translates these physical realities into a visceral dialogue with her materials, treating the act of creation as both a record of endurance and a search for bodily agency.
Tentor’s aesthetic is characterized by an aggressive materiality—utilizing rope, stitches, and structural perforations to investigate the residue of internalized moral systems and the resilience of the physical form. She has exhibited her work in New York and Florida, including notable shows at Chashama Art Gallery and the OIA Gallery (Gallery 402) in New York City. Most recently, her work was featured in the 2025 Abstractions exhibition at the Broward Art Guild and in Her Canvas at Blue Koi Gallery, where she received an Honorable Mention. She was also selected for the upcoming Echoes of Esther exhibit in Poughkeepsie, New York (March 2026).
In addition to her studio practice, Tentor has a background in curation and scholarly research. She curated the exhibition Revealing the Unconscious at Chashama and contributed to the catalogue for The Light of Infinite Wisdom at the Godwin-Ternbach Museum in Queens, NY. Her professional experience includes serving as a Gallery Assistant for the Organization of Independent Artists (OIA) and as Independent Curator in New York City from 2005-2007. From 2006 to 2024, she conducted dedicated studio research into the intersection of movement and visual art, focusing on the conceptual development of the body as a site of physical and emotional persistence.
Tentor’s formal education began in Italy at a specialized arts high school. She holds an M.A. in Art History from Queens College (CUNY), a B.A. in Dance and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Florida International University (FIU), and an A.A. in Visual Arts from Miami Dade College, where she was awarded a scholarship for artistic merit. In addition to her artistic practice, she is a licensed psychotherapist in the state of Florida. Her work is held in private collections across the United States and Europe.
