"As a multidisciplinary artist, exploring the creative nuance form and relives a sense of capture within me” ('Gb-yega)
Artist Statement
Art and creativity have always mesmerized ‘Gb-yega since he was young, the infinite mix and variations. As an emerging artist, living in London and receive his Master’s in Design and Media Arts from the University of Westminster. He is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist. His art preference is photography, painting, video, moving images and dance on screen film. All these he interwove to explore the visual gesture and the narrative possibilities presented in a type of “galleria”.
His earlier works are dance on-screen films, employing movement and dance of a dancer moving body as the protagonist. This correlates to space and presentation, defining the spatial boundaries with the fugitive body in a gesture which relates to the act of spatial scenography.
He started as a dancer but have always been fascinated with the dialogue between the visual nuance and the elusive pronunciation in the artistic form. His dance for the camera films has been screened and exhibited both nationally and on international platforms.
His art and creative nuance are of his African identity and childhood memories which stimulate his creative space. His art draws influence from different artistic media and artists like Ben Enwonwu, Isaac Julien, Roy Lichtenstein, Basquiat, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Joan Miro, Young-Deok Seo etc.
His art concentrates on the visual narrative process by employing the available medium as a vessel to convey his art pieces. Below are some of his art exhibits as q group and participatory exhibition.
