Fabio Negri, born in the Po Delta Park in 1961, lives and works in Ariano nel Polesine. A visual artist and conceptual photographer, he has developed a body of research recognized by critics and specialized magazines since 1989. Over time, his artistic journey has evolved through the study of contemporary art and the investigation of the psychosocial and cognitive mechanisms that govern human behavior.
Initially influenced by objective and metaphysical landscape photography – with references to Bernd and Hilla Becher, Luigi Ghirri, Gabriele Basilico, and Massimo Vitali – Negri has developed a personal visual language characterized by a rigorous geometric order and a calibrated compositional precision, structural elements through which he organizes space to highlight the contradictions of reality.
Over the years, his practice has progressively moved away from the single shot to embrace the creation of composite works and the use of non-photographic materials, such as tar paper and plexiglass, which are sometimes capable of stimulating even synesthetic and tactile interactions with the observer. His entire exhibition and project career is articulated in key phases that constantly investigate the short circuit between reality and perception.
Summer Front - parody of freedom (2005): A graphic and orthogonal investigation into the beach resort architectures of the Adriatic coast, framed as conceptual cages in which humans lock themselves away during the very season of maximum freedom.
Alti Cieli - the Po delta between poetry and metaphysics (2009): A mirror work to the previous one, where the deliberate abandonment of the golden ratio evokes a sense of lightness, dismantling the rigid constraints of thought and aesthetic purism.
DeltaPoRoad - theory and practice of perception (2012): A multi-material work consisting of 24 large-format photographs and 10 glass and asphalt panels. A tactile invitation to interact with the matter to unveil the ambiguities of the real.
Reset? - history of a crooked world (2014): A reflection on environmental impact and the illusions of consumerism. Waste collected across four continents is isolated and recomposed within elegant plexiglass sheets; the horizon, artificially straightened, becomes a metaphor for an apparent and precarious global balance. Featured in 2019 within the anthological exhibition
"IL-LOGICO MONDO".
ODIQUAODILA (2019): An ironic and immersive installation exploring the cognitive magnification of everyday obstacles, inviting the audience to question the perceived gravity of environmental and mental barriers.
Spostare il mare / Moving the Sea (2020): A witty critique of the phenomenon of "fakes" in contemporary visual communication, highlighting the unbridgeable distance between image and reality.
Explain To Me (2023): A powerful geopolitical work that condenses into a single shot the wretched human condition driven by the grabbing of land and resources.
Denied Identity - all alike, all different (2025/2026): His most recent research, inspired by the geometric seriality of poplar groves in the Po Valley. The project delves into common preconceptions and cultural conformity, asserting the value and resistance of individual identity within a community.
