Paulina Montes is a Chilean contemporary visual artist based in Santiago, whose abstract painting explores the relationship between materiality, memory, and the experience of landscape. Drawing on years spent living in both Chile and Belgium, her work reflects an ongoing dialogue between geological processes, architecture, and cultural memory.
Originally trained in economics and finance, Montes brings an interdisciplinary perspective to her artistic practice, developing paintings that investigate transformation through layered surfaces, texture, transparency, and gesture. Working primarily with acrylic and asphalt paint on canvas, she creates atmospheric compositions that invite slow observation and contemplation.
Her work has been exhibited in Chile and internationally, including at Miami Art Week, the Women's Art Exhibition in Osaka, Japan, and VOLTA Basel, Switzerland. She has also been selected for international exhibition programs including WAD Dubai and the Affordable Art Fair New York, and was a pre-finalist in the Latinismo Contemporary Art Competition in New York.
