Anna Matuszewska, also known as Anna Alicja, is a young Polish painter. From an early age, art has been her constant companion, providing comfort and stability in both moments of joy and hardship. It is through the creative process that the artist finds peace amidst chaos, organizing disorder rather than fighting against it.
A significant influence on the artist’s work is butoh, an avant-garde form of Japanese dance theatre. Growing up, Anna Matuszewska was immersed in the world of dance theatre through her father, a photographer specializing in this field. This experience deeply shaped her understanding of movement and expression, inspiring her to juxtapose the fluidity and dynamism of dance with the stillness and essence of painting.
The artist’s creative journey is marked by continuous curiosity and dedication to her craft. Over the years, she has explored various media, including digital art, jewelry making, tattooing, and animation. Despite these explorations, painting has always remained her primary passion. She began pursuing painting as a professional career at the age of 15, when she held her first exhibition.
The artist’s formal education includes a Bachelor’s degree in New Media Arts from the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw. From 2021 to 2024, she collaborated with the Young Polish Art Gallery, located on Kopernika Street in Warsaw.
