Their guiding thesis is that every dominant medium becomes a mirror. When machines are built from language itself, the human is no longer defined by what it makes but by the signal beneath the noise. Lake's recent work traces that signal across history. The Alphabet That Answers renders nine figures, from Socrates to Alan Turing, each through the medium of their age, dissolving one into the next. Signatures Through Technologies, Breathwork for Machines, and the Vitruvian Signal series extend the same inquiry through video, ritual, and code.
Lake holds a PhD in bioethics from the University of Zurich, pursued postdoctoral research in the ethics of artificial intelligence at the University of Calgary, and studied practical ethics at the University of Oxford. Their work has been exhibited across Canada and covered by Radio-Canada among others. They are a recipient of a BC Heritage Award and a Governor's Award from the National Trust for Canada.
