"The essence of an existent is no longer a power embedded deep inside it; it is the manifest law governing the succession of its appearances, the principle of the series." (Sartre, Jean-Paul. Being and Nothingness.)
A system of adversarial neural networks (GAN) generates new digital sculptures by learning on an initial dataset of thousands pictures of 82 physical sculptures that I made with the same 2 sheets of metal (lead), to set the principle of the series.
(See the process of making the physical sculptures and their data acquisition for the AI training in the video link)
The final work consists in infinite sculptures, letting the artificial intelligence generate new ones forever.
The work can be presented as NFT collection, in which each NFT is a collage of selected AI generate digital sculptures [e.g. images 1 and 2] or as a scalable installation [image 3], with a projection of constantly new AI generated sculptures on the sides, and the raw material (2 sheets of lead) used to make the physical sculpture for the training dataset, in the middle.
