Paramisia or Fairytale "Yana and the Blacksmith" directed by Małgorzata Jabłońska & Piotr Szewczyk
In a certain village, there lives a girl named Yana, who is as good as an angel, with her mother. When the Roma arrive in the village with a caravan, Yana falls in love with a young Roma violinist. Their love is forbidden because the lovers belong to two different cultures. Will they manage to gain the community's acceptance and live happily ever after?
The animated film "Paramisia 'Yana and the Blacksmith'" was created for the Dom Kultury Foundation as a result of the collaboration between Roma and non-Roma artists from various fields. It is based on a fairy tale written by the Roma singer and poet Teresa Mirga. The film is accompanied by music she recorded with her band, Kałe Bała. The story is narrated in the Romani language by Noemi Łakatosz.
The animation's visual design was created by non-Roma artists Małgorzata Jabłońska and Piotr Szewczyk, along with Roma children and youth (Denisa, Denisa-Casandra, Jasmina, Paradisa, Samira, Sisi-Wiktoria, Stella, Walentyna) from Wrocław, under the guidance of multicultural integration assistants (Roksana Stojowska, Stella Pawłowska) from Nomada — The Association for the Integration of Multicultural Society. The film also uses photographs by the independent Roma artist, Delfin Łakatosz. The various visual elements are brought together through the animation and editing by Piotr Szewczyk.
