How difficult is it to initiate a connection in public space, especially in a part of the world where social interaction can be challenging as a result of cultural etiquette?
Culture is all about connections. “Drift” is an interactive art installation in the form of oversized ping-pong table where several people can meet impromptu and play triggering social interaction. With an emphasis on place-making and community building, urban project questions the traditional notion of community participation and public involvement in art projects. Committed to practicing socially-purposeful design that resonates with culture, work tries to reconsider the character of urban settings examining how art can connect people, through an inclusive installation focused on human engagement.
“Drift” is inspired by local landscape, combining elements of contemporary design and traditional Arabian handicrafts to capture the essence and distinctive identity of Dubai. Reminiscent of ornaments found in local crafts and motifs of Arabic carpets, combinations allude to interweaving multicultural fabric of Dubai.
