“Yun” draws inspiration from the moment a seed germinates and breaks through the soil. Rooted in the earth, living forms absorb the energies of their surroundings silently, gradually gathering the strength for new growth.
The work is made from natural ramie and raw lacquer using the traditional Chinese bodiless lacquer technique. In this process, the supporting mould is removed after the lacquer structure forms, leaving a hollow yet resilient body. This transformation echoes the seed’s passage from containment to emergence, a process of shedding, renewal, and rebirth.
The dense, earth-like lacquer surface appears to enclose an inner vitality on the verge of release. Through its restrained form and material depth, Yun evokes the elemental life force that accumulates beneath stillness, concealed, persistent, and impossible to suppress.
