We are only shadows,
echoes of wandering gazes in the silence.
We are slits—or wounds—
hidden in the night.
We are what we seek,
or what we are allowed to find.
WW_ O1 Emphasises a vertical tension: stitched marble frames light as an active element, making fracture operate as a threshold rather than closure. The calibrated slits organise a sequence of views, guiding the gaze from exterior seam to interior volume while preserving the work’s intimate, protected core.
This is part of a series called White Wombs .
White Wombs reconfigures sculpture as a vessel of protection and revelation. Thin slabs of salvaged marble are sutured with thread, brass, or steel to form enclosures that host an inner work. Surfaces prepared with cyanotype register both UV-resistant inscriptions (egg tempera) and the imprinted shadow of the hidden sculpture, allowing absence to appear as trace. Light activates the process, entering through slits to project shifting images and to choreograph the viewer’s movement around the piece. The series explores fragility, repair, and custodianship through material ethics and time-based perception.
