This life size status is made of a real young adult and is called watch my back. The reason I made this artwork is because of the struggle I see at many children and young adults in life, keeping up with the expectations of society and the loss of a young adult closeby (suïcide).
We have to take care of eachother, find our passion and purpose in life and our own identity. But the road can be bumpy and challenges lie ahead and are sometimes very tempting so on meanwhile we need te watch eachothers backs, be supportive and tolerant towards eachother. The essence of this bronze sculpture lies in the attention to the growing search of young people for the essence of being / existence and authenticity. This free-standing bronze figure, designed for indoor contemplation and as a beacon outdoors, symbolizes the strength, vulnerability and beauty in every person.
For me personalia it was a proces of giving all the emotions a change to escape. I made the basis with was and with a high temperature a got did of all the emoticons that needed to leave but the memories that left was there to stay and is turned into bronze, to last forever .
