The staggering amount of anthropogenic debris that has accumulated in the oceans over the last few decades has spread to the most remote regions on earth. Vexed by related reports I wondered if microplastics could be found in the Arctic. To this end, I designed and build the 'Acceptance' a floating device conceived to filter surface water. The apparatus was dramatically lost at sea but the samples collected prior to the sinking contained fragments and microfibers as confirmed by FTIR analysis.
