Oskar Landi was born and raised in Italy. He moved to New York in 1998 where he attended the International Center of Photography and studied cinematography at New York University while working as a photo assistant for legendary photographer Mary Ellen Mark. His works examine mankind’s relationship with the environment through experiential approaches both in the studio and in the field. This practice involves nighttime treks in remote locations to photograph moonlit landscapes, studies of suspended dust particles, unearthing urban refuse and sieving ocean water in search of microplastic pollution. Experimenting with orientation in darkness, detection of intangible matter and urban excavation are strategies employed to explore perceptual boundaries and natural phenomena through the camera. His photographs have been widely published on international media outlets and are in a number of private collections, including the permanent collection of the Messner Mountain Museum.
