Trump Wants Us Dead

This piece is an embroidered quilt with vines surrounding a male figure. The figure is meant to recede so that what first jumps out at the viewer are his embroidered tattoos. It's composed of repurposed linen tea towels and napkins and part of a table cloth. The figure represents the nearly three hundred immigrants who were deported to a maximum security prison in El Salvador illegally by the Trump administration. The vine surrounding the figure is called Deadly Nightshade and is a common weed in the Eastern US. It has unpleasant properties such as toxic berries and tendrils that strangle the plants that it climbs to get light. The No + ! is a reference to the Chilean Democracy movement that ousted Pinochet. The man is embroidered with tattoos because Trumps ICE forces identified  the deportees as gang members by the look of their tattoos. The embroidered tattoos are based on Chicano gang tattoos. No evidence has been presented to prove that these people do in fact belong to gangs. They have not had trials and they are held incommuncado with no access to lawyers, family, or any mechanism for them to secure their realease.
