TREECOLORE è un'installazione naturale che ridefinisce concettualmente il simbolo della bandiera italiana, iconografia dell'identità nazionale, per farsi grido di denuncia sociale. Il soggetto dell'opera, la pianta di corbezzolo - storicamente denominata albero d'Italia per via dei colori della vegetazione, fioritura e fruttificazione presenti nel periodo tardo autunnale (ma latitudine e fattori climatici ne influenzano tempi e modalità) - viene deprivata dei suoi valori idilliaci e reinterpretata nel contesto di una nuova metamorfosi formale e politica.
Articolazione concettuale
La Forma del Dolore (Pathosformel): la struttura del corbezzolo è stata modificata seguendo curve sinuose che richiamano la
Pathosformel (formula del pathos) teorizzata nel 1905 da Aby Warburg
(1). L'albero assume la postura archetipica della disperazione: il corpo vegetale si incurva in avanti, mentre i rami si contraggono all'indietro. Non più solo elemento botanico, la pianta diventa corpo vivo che soffre incarnando il dolore incontenibile universale e senza tempo.
La Prigione di Latta: spezzando il legame profondo con la terra libera, la pianta è costretta all'interno di un barattolo di latta che sostituisce il tradizionale vaso di terracotta. Questo materiale povero prodotto industrialmente, simbolo della raccolta e del confezionamento alimentare, evoca la cruda realtà del caporalato e dello sfruttamento dei braccianti agricoli. La latta si fa gabbia concettuale rappresentando la riduzione dell'essere umano a mero ingranaggio alienato della catena produttiva.
Il Monumento agli Invisibili: l'intera installazione poggia su un cumulo di sassi verdi (marmo delle Alpi), bianchi (marmo di Carrara) e rossi (lapillo vulcanico). Questo basamento si configura come un atto rituale e sacro: una tumulazione simbolica per tutti i braccianti che hanno perso la vita lavorando nei campi.
Conclusioni
Il titolo TREECOLORE ed il suo sottotitolo scardinano l'idea di una patria astratta e "tessile", racchiusa nei contorni di una bandiera. La vera identità del Paese sanguina nella carne viva della sua terra e di chi la lavora. Attraverso questo cortocircuito visivo, l'installazione trasforma il simbolo patriottico in un sacrario per gli invisibili, un monumento necessario alla memoria e alla dignità umana.
IL PROCESSO CREATIVO DEI 2 ARTISTI E L’APPORTO DELL’AI
Il titolo ed i messaggi espressi attraverso l’opera TREECOLORE sono stati ideati dai due artisti, senza ricorrere all’AI. In un secondo momento, l’algoritmo è stato di aiuto per redigere una chiara stesura delle idee.
L’installazione è stata costruita fisicamente. Le fotografie relative all’opera scultorea di Niccolò dell’Arca, così come quella della installazione, sono state realizzate dai 2 artisti manualmente, senza ricorrere all’AI. È stata utilizzata l’AI per contestualizzare l’installazione TREECOLORE, in particolare per dare l’effetto di un ambiente interno di sfondo.
L’infografica è stata disegnata con semplici strumenti digitali, senza ricorrere all’AI. Lo schizzo di progetto, per rappresentare la modellazione del tronco del corbezzolo, è stato creato a mano dagli autori e digitalizzato, senza utilizzo dell’AI.
Le biografie discendono dai CV dei 2 autori; l’AI è stata utilizzata secondariamente per sintetizzare il percorso creativo di entrambi.
MANUTENZIONE DELL’INSTALLAZIONE
La pianta del corbezzolo può stare all’aperto o in un ambiente interno dotato di molta luce.

TREECOLORE is a natural installation that conceptually redefines the symbol of the Italian flag—the traditional iconography of national identity—to become a powerful cry of social protest.
The subject of the work is the strawberry tree (corbezzolo), historically dubbed the "Tree of Italy" due to the green of its foliage, the white of its blossoms, and the red of its berries during late autumn (though latitude and climate factors naturally influence the timing and manner of this bloom). Here, the plant is stripped of its idyllic associations and reinterpreted within the context of a new formal and political metamorphosis.
Conceptual Framework
The Shape of Suffering (Pathosformel): The structure of the strawberry tree has been modified to follow sinuous curves that evoke the
Pathosformel (pathos formula) theorized in 1905 by art historian Aby Warburg
(1). The tree adopts the archetypal posture of despair: its botanical body bends forward while its branches contract backward. No longer a mere botanical element, the plant becomes a living, suffering body, embodying an irrepressible, universal, and timeless grief.
The Tin Prison: Severing its deep bond with the free earth, the plant is confined inside an industrial tin can, which replaces the traditional terracotta pot. This cheap, mass-produced material—a symbol of harvesting and food packaging—evokes the harsh reality of
caporalato (the illegal exploitation of farmworkers) and the systemic abuse of agricultural laborers. The tin becomes a conceptual cage, representing the reduction of a human being to a mere, alienated cog in the production chain.
The Monument to the Invisible: The entire installation rests on a mound of green (Alpine marble), white (Carrara marble), and red (volcanic lapilli) stones. This base serves as a sacred, ritual act: a symbolic burial for all the farmworkers who have lost their lives working in the fields.
Conclusions
The title TREECOLORE and its subtitle dismantle the idea of an abstract, "textile" homeland enclosed within the borders of a fabric flag. The true identity of the country bleeds in the living flesh of its land and of those who cultivate it. Through this visual short-circuit, the installation transforms a patriotic symbol into a sanctuary for the invisible—a vital, necessary monument to memory and human dignity.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS OF THE TWO ARTISTS AND THE ROLE OF AI
The title and the core messages expressed through the artwork TREECOLORE were conceptualized solely by the two artists, without the use of AI. Subsequently, the algorithm was utilized to help refine and clearly articulate these ideas.
The installation itself was physically constructed. The photographs of Niccolò dell'Arca’s sculptural work, as well as those of the installation, were taken manually by the two artists without any reliance on AI. AI was, however, employed to contextualize the TREECOLORE installation, specifically to simulate an indoor setting in the background.
The infographic was designed manually using simple digital tools, without the assistance of AI. The preliminary design sketch, which illustrates the modeling of the strawberry tree trunk, was created by hand by the authors and digitized, without any use of AI.
The biographies are derived from the two authors' CVs; AI was used secondary to summarize their respective creative journeys.
MAINTENANCE OF THE INSTALLATIONThe strawberry tree plant can be kept outdoors or in a highly luminous indoor environment.
