The Flood; when the levee breaks
On June 6, 2023, one of the largest ecocides in Ukraine and Europe was triggered by the presumably Russian-initiated blowing up of the Kakhovka Dam near Kherson. People lost their homes, thousands of animals died as a result of the floods and lost their habitat, dangerous substances entered the water, including tons of liters of machine oil.
Stahel works through the catastrophe in his work
The Flood, which shows the flooding of 30 houses in a graphic realization. The Flood is a 30-kilogram solid cast aluminum plate measuring 70 by 70 centimeters, 30kg solid Aluminium, which he produces himself using a sand-casting process.
Each house element is first produced as a 3D print and then precisely glued onto a wooden panel by using a template.
The finished model is molded in sand in a two-part mold box and then poured with liquid aluminum.
