The Destruction, the leftovers of a war crime
On June 6. 2023, one of the largest ecocides in Ukraine and Europe was triggered by the presumably Russian-initiated blowing up of the Kakhovka dam near Kherson.
Stahel created two massive 30 kg heavy aluminum plates, covering the disaster. Destruction, a 30kg heavy solid aluminium casting, shows the leftovers after the water was gone. It reminds the viewer of a bomb crater, of destroyed concrete. This works reflects the total war, the destruction left behind. Compared to the other plate, called the „flood“, „destruction“ is not following any graphic symmetry, its completely random and experimental. Its a reminder of human force and power, when it gets abused.
