What happens if a seed of a wild plant finds a place in a crack and starts growing, changing this place and accommodating it for living? How much space does a seed need to make a 'home'?
The plants growing through the asphalt are the symbol of resistance and the ability of nature—and humans as part of it—to overcome barriers and keep existing. I’m also inspired by the fact that we build and we destroy, and by how nature responds to it.
Between 2020 and 2023, I worked with different plants, such as nettles, green foxtail, and common groundsel (old-man-in-the-spring), among others. I created a smaller piece with asphalt to test the ability of a plant to survive, as well as a larger-scale concrete installation.
I believe this work is open to interpretation. I use plants as a symbol that I invite viewers to interpret and read from a broad perspective.
