In her vast workshop in the heart of the city of Angers, Véronique Bénony sculpts a dreamlike animal world.
Her work aims to faithfully model certain parts of the animal and to enrich the shapes with prints and colors that will reinforce the character traits. This singular writing thus gives birth to a fanciful fauna with numerous patterns and faded colors bearing the old-fashioned charm of worn-out toys.
The rhinoceros adorned with a sort of ceremonial outfit results from this creative process giving this animal, although so massive, an elegant and contemporary look.
The sculptures made of chamotte stoneware are generally mounted on a plate or directly constructed in hollows. After a long drying time, the pieces fired at 960° are enameled before a final firing at 1200°.
