respectively
"resp." is a body of work rooted in the words respiration, response, and respectively
— pointing to the relationships of response that arise between living beings and their
environment.
Beginning from the artist's own memories of breath witnessed at the edge of life and
death, the works give form in space to the ever-changing movements of life within
nature's rhythms — expressed through forms that move.
By inviting a bodily perception of those cycles and tremors, the series offers a space
in which to look again at the relationship between human beings and the natural
world.
resp. turning
Cocoon-like soft forms — evoking the texture of skin and cells — are connected to stones that
embody the earth by brass pipes, through which water continuously circulates. From this, a
movement emerges that recalls the slow growth of a plant.
As if searching for equilibrium, the forms bend, pause, rise, and pause again. Within what
appears to be a steady repetition, water — as a natural element — introduces subtle tremors that
resist full control.
Listening quietly to the sound of water moving through the work, one is drawn to reflect on the
flow felt within oneself, and its connection to the larger circulation of the world outside.
