This piece which is comprised of an umbrella handle and a hyperreal forearm tightly balled into a fist shoots up in protest with the press of a button. It lays upside-down next to a hung raincoat and a pair of tucked away rain boots. A Raised fist is a symbol of protest throughout history, and the umbrella signals weather and climate In this time, our world is facing countless social injustices and the existential threat that the current environmental crisis poses. With the world seemingly in a constant state of chaos, crisis fatigue is ever-present in our lives. This piece examines the role that crisis fatigue has on us as individuals and the impact it has on our environment, as we live in a system that relies on us growing tired and giving up. The work also contemplates performative social justice and challenges viewers to reflect on the role of protest within a system that will determine the fate of our climate.
