The work was born in response to the ArtCall of the "Re-Place" project organized by the magazine MU6 and the curators Germana Galli and Antonella Muzi a few years after the earthquake, with the aim of giving light to the city again through site-specific interventions positioned at interior of the urban space.
Like a video that fails to load, the lightbox represents the loading bar of a program that advances but, instead of completing the loading, regresses, revealing the inadequacy of the memory to store and contain the data, the poor ability of the CPU to process them in order to return a functional image, far from problems of instability or intermittent progress.
Through a system of timed LEDs, the work shows the state of buffer in which the city of L'Aquila found itself in 2016, 7 years after the catastrophe and in which it still concerns, focusing mostly on the dogged reconstruction of the hardware and on a singular local vision tending to format the historic center itself in the name of gentrification.
Through a sort of pain therapy we are in fact choosing to act even where it is not necessary or functional and too often to the detriment of urban memory, of the sense of identity and belonging of those who live there.
The work, positioned on the southern bastion of the Spanish Fort in the city of L'Aquila, was awarded and used as the cover of the MU6 magazine in 2016.
