Some see the tongue as a symbol of taboos, such as eroticism as a provocation in the house of worship, while others understand it as a symbol of Pentecost. Ina Loitzl was an artist in residence in Munich in 2018 and used this time to start her oversized tongue sculpture. As part of her "anatomical cycle," she expresses her fascination with the tongue as a muscular body, "which simultaneously embodies pleasure and disgust." "Showing your tongue is taboo; children use it to communicate their disapproval. Einstein's protruding tongue is probably the most famous, but musicians like the Rolling Stones, Kiss, or Miley Cyrus also use this symbol of provocation."
